Focus on young talent

Since moving into the St. Jakob Park in 2001, more than 45 players from the youth team have made it into the first-team squad of FC Basel. These include, for example, players who have made the leap to renowned foreign clubs after successful seasons with the FCB, such as Ivan Rakitic, Xherdan Shaqiri, Granit Xhaka, Yann Sommer and Fabian Frei.

But also a large number of players who were key players in the current FCB team have made their way through the FCB youth section, such as former FC Basel 1893 players Zdravko Kuzmanovic, Philipp Degen, Robin Huser and Breel Embolo.

Prophysics plays a role as technical partner in the field of performance area of performance diagnostics and looks after some of the systems that are in daily use. This allows the athletes to be analysed, assessed and observed over several years.

Witty SEM is the newest member of the Witty family: it is an «intelligent traffic light» consisting of a 7x5 multicolor LED matrix for the management of different colors and symbols. Thanks to the integrated proximity sensor, Witty SEM proves to be the ideal solution for the optimized planning and management of sport-specific tests with regard to reactivity, dexterity and cognitive-motor skills.

Top sporting performance requires tailor-made training methods that are continuously optimized. In order to work out this, precise knowledge of the force progression over time is required. Kistler force plates with piezoelectric sensors measure forces and moments in sports diagnostics or performance diagnostics precisely and reliably - even under demanding conditions.

FC Basel Junior Campus

The Basel campus for young talent is located on the St. Jakob site on the Brüglingen Plain; it was opened in summer 2013. Currently, five junior teams of FC Basel 1893 (U21, U18, U17, U16, U15) and partly also the women’s teams find ideal training facilities there.

Among other things, the campus consists of an artificial turf field and four grass pitches, one of which is heated to enable year-round operation. Adjacent to the main field is also a small grandstand with covered seating. Training sessions are held daily on the campus and championship and test matches are played there at weekends and in the evenings. The campus is operated and maintained by the Nachwuchs-Campus Basel Foundation.

In performance diagnostics, the systems from prophysics are used to test and assess the young athletes as well as the first team and to track their performance development.
