Emphasis at IfaDo

The IfADo primarily looks at the fundamental physical and mental processes – especially the liver, the brain, the immune system and the entire musculoskeletal and sensory system. Furthermore the IfaDo investigates practical contexts in the work environment: What is an ergonomically healthy workplace? What influence do factors such as stress and changes in age have on work performance and health? Which pollutant limits are suitable for work and the environment?

The design and evaluation of work situations and their adaptation to human needs are central tasks of ergonomics. The well-being of the acting person, but also their efficiency (accuracy and speed of actions) play equally important roles.
As a result of changes in the work environment, cognitive aspects (information processing), mental stress and demographic change are increasingly coming to the forefront of ergonomic research.
The spectrum of ergonomic research at IfADo therefore ranges from psychological-neuroscientific research into human information processing to the design of workplaces suitable for ageing.

The compact Vero cameras have sensor resolutions of either 1.3 or 2.2 megapixels. The camera has a variable zoom lens, which makes it especially suited for smaller capture volumes where it is especially important to have an optimum field of view. The Vero’s attractive price combined with its light weight and small size makes it a great choice for smaller labs and studios.

Vicon Nexus has been designed for the requirements and workflow of Life Science users. Data recording and processing can be fully customized to fit your requirements (for example by including your own marker sets and biomechanical models), and then automated so that routine tasks require only a mouse click. Data is hierarchically organized in the data management, and direct interfaces to MATLAB and Python allow data to be processed without the need to export and import data files.

GRAIL stands for Gait Realtime Analysis Interactive Lab. It is an interactive gait lab with integrated virtual environment, motion capture, strength measurement and various training apps.

State-of-the-art gait laboratory for the Leibniz research centre for working environment and human factors

A GRAIL system has been implemented in our institute. It is a system with a total of six force plates under the treadmill surface, 10 Vicon cameras and a later upgraded high-performance motor. We have added a local Wi-Fi network that transmits digital triggers generated by the D-Flow environment and sent by the installed Phidget trigger device to the EEG we use with millisecond accuracy. This provides the opportunity to explore cognitive psychological questions concerning the interaction of movement and the simultaneous performance of mental tasks.
